This was the current poster but after critique I made some tweaks and ended up with the one at the bottom. 

Some of the critique I got was; 

- wanting to see John Key more 
- how 'boycott 2014' sounds like a boycott of a whole year rather than an election
- maybe not use the 'ransom note' style text for 'boycott 2014'
- make the blue brighter

Other than that it went down quite well and was understood properly.

Week 5, Session 1

I started to think about a parody of a government symbol in some way and ended up with these ideas:

I'm not happy with it though, it's just not working but I feel like I am finally getting somewhere. I think I could probably lose the tagline but I need some other way of enforcing the idea. At the moment the idea is too passive and there are too many fonts going on, the hierarchy is just not working at all.

Week 4, Session 2

Today we gave and received some critique and carried on with our work.

I found that I needed to do a lot more work but from all the research I had done I had a solid persuasive argument against not voting I just needed to find a way to visualise it because my typographic poster ideas were very boring. Through the talking I realised that I should just target my poster towards the youth, this solved some problems I was having with making the poster understandable to everyone.

Week 4, Session 1

I am starting to feel very behind and I am spending way too much time researching so I didn't have a developed design ready by the interim critique class but I got some critique on my rough ideas and some sketches anyway;

- They agreed that the text based designs were the easiest and most effective way of getting across my idea

- Although I was going for a sort of sullen feel they thought the grey was too dull and depressing.

- They suggested using colour but when I explained how every time I did it automatically turned the poster into a Labour poster or a Greens poster they agreed. They then suggested using lots of colours or even using different textures or printing techniques to create definition with white on white which I hadn't thought of before.

- They suggested maybe trying to find a way of using my beehive idea.

Week 3, Session 2

Today we talked about style, composition and colour and how they can reinforce/change the meaning of an image.

We gave and received some critique and carried on with our concepts.

Week 3, Session 1

Today we had a small group critique session of our thumbnails to date and talked about the rhetoric examples we had found and what worked well about them.

We also talked about text and image and how a tagline can hugely affect an image, potentially changing the whole meaning. We were asked to look over our thumbnails and think about potential tag lines that could reinforce the idea.
